International city is an 800 hectare development that encompasses commercial, residential and retail developments from around the world. This development may not be as in-demand as other developments by the developer Nakheel, but International City still has its investors. This may be because it is one of the most affordable places to live in the city. International City is divided into three main sections, including the central district, the residential district and the lakes district. The name of the development comes from the residential district that has themed apartments based on countries from all over the world including Italy, Morocco, Spain, Greece, Russia, Indonesia and Thailand. These apartments were developed by Nakheel and include studio and one bedroom apartments that are spacious for Dubai standards. However, these have almost identical floor plans. The Central District has land sold to independent developers, and is home to most of the shops and head offices in the development. There are no branded supermarkets in the development but there are many small grocery shops and restaurants. The lakes district has over 60 hectares of green landscape with 26 buildings that have two and three bedroom apartments. Located on Emirates Road, near Dubai International Airport, International City is around a 10 minutes drive from Festival City and a 30 minutes drive from the Dubai International Financial Centre.
